For Neufeld, a broken plastic fan shroud had to be replaced. There was no drawing and no spare part available.

Approach

  • 3D scan: The part was digitised from 238 photos using photogrammetry and scaled using a measured hole spacing.
  • CAD: The scan was turned into a clean, parametric CAD model (STEP) – symmetrical, with real dimensions instead of warped fragments.
  • Check: Comparing scan and model – with each broken piece aligned individually – shows a median deviation of 0.44 mm.
  • Print: Glass-fibre-reinforced filament, additionally laminated with glass-fibre mat – for use in the engine bay.

The new part is installed and in use. With the CAD file it can be made again at any time.
